If anyone could help me with this, it would be great.
I'm an incoming freshman and I was wondering how laundry works. I know it's free (technically, we are getting charged for it through our tuition), but don't students have to swipe their card to access the laundry machine? Or you just open the laundry machine and stuff your clothes inside and the magic of cleaning happen?

The washers and dryers are totally without charge. Just walk up and throw your clothes in (there is of course that pesky adding detergent step). Hampshire replaced all the washers and dryers this year with more efficient models that are also ‘wired’: you can go to a Web page to see which machines are currently available, and you can even request that a text message be sent to you when your load is done!

thank you…so no need to swipe card or anything else…how does the machine start then if we don’t swipe? How does the machine know it should start washing?
