I was wondering if the washing machines and dryers at IV allow you to stop mid-cycle? The reason for this is because I usually like to marinate my clothes mid-cycle for 10 minutes (in washing machines) and I usually take delicate clothes out before the cycle ends (in dryers).

Also, how long are the cycles for washing machines and dryers, respectively?
Are there long line wait-ups for the washing machines and dryers at IV?

I believe all washers and dryers lock during the cycle (so that someone can’t take your clothes out mid-cycle and put theirs in/to prevent theft I assume).

36 minutes for washers, 60 minutes for dryers (you can add up to 3 free 10 minute cycles for the dryer).

There are definitely times when all the washers and dryers are in use (especially on the 2nd floor). I don’t think I ever ran into that problem on the 22nd floor (I liked doing my laundry up there for the view). I never did mine on the 13th/14th floor (wherever it is) so I can’t comment on that.

Hm, I think the 2nd floor would be the most convenient for me, but I think it would be interesting to look at the view from the 22nd floor (while doing laundry, that is). Is it common for people to bring their laundry in elevators, or do they typically use the stairs?

Well I certainly used the elevator bringing my laundry up to the 22nd floor from the 4th floor haha But the elevator ride was relatively long so I just started doing it on the 2nd floor. I’d say most people used the elevator.

wait, so how do you wash your jeans?! lol …i usually put my jeans in for like 15 minutes. they would completely shrink if i left them in for 60 minutes

The washers lock once they start so you can’t stop them mid cycle, but the dryers can be stopped. You just open the door and it’ll automatically stop. Then to start it again, just close the door and hit the button (either colors, perm press, etc)

Oh, okay, that sounds much better, thanks!

haha i get it now. ty!

@neu0913: never knew that; thanks for the info! I just let my jeans shrink lol

i figured it out one time when i had to get to class in 10 minutes and didn’t feel like leaving my laundry there through the whole class because someone would have taken it out for me and i hate when other people touch my clothes lol

Probably just has to do with your particular dryer. I’ve never had the opportunity to use one that works that well.

Being able to stop the dryers and restart them has been on every dryer I’ve ever encountered on campus. Warning though: sometimes when you do that (or the person before you did that), the next load you try to do in that dryer might not be run through, so the dryer might eat your virtual husky laundry bucks. If that happens you can send in a request and get a check for like $1.50 or whatever, but it’s a pain in the butt. Try not to do it unless you absolutely have to, else you might end up screwing over yourself or the person after you.
