I seem to be the one asking all the stupid questions, but
looking for Christmas gifts for my D who’ll be attending UA next fall. We are getting her the monogrammed sheets, a rug, a cool lamp, air purifier, etc. I wanted a fun, but durable laundry bag/hamper and cannot find one. The Pottery Barn ones are cute, but I’m not sure they are worth $50. Are they? Can any of you (or your students) recommend one? And, does she need an air purifier? Noise canceller? Any other fun gift ideas for the room would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance~

$50 for a laundry bag? lol…I’d kill myself first. lol

Is this going to double as a hamper and then lug it to the laundry room? If so, I love this…

My boys used ones like this for their hamper and laundry tote, but I can’t find the exact ones online. There’s were a little taller and a little skinnier…got them at Walmart, but not seeing them online.

I think they were about $9.

I would not buy a whole lot of dorm things now. There’s a long 7/8 months until move-in. Trends and styles are going to change, new stuff is going to come out.

Agree with above. Plus she may want to match with her roommate, if she has one.

I am putting extra money away for our pre move-in shopping spree next summer. Also stockpiling my Bed, Bath, & Beyond coupons!

DD does not use a laundry bag at at. She prefers a BASKET. So she can schlep the dirty clothes to the laundry room, and bring them back clean IN THE SAME BASKET.

mine has a few baskets (all the same) all stacked up, so she has a few baskets to work with while doing laundry.

This seems the best approach for the dorm dweller.

My daughter loves the one she has. We got it at the Container Store. It is a sliver rectangle frame. You purchase the large drawstring bag, there are several choices. My daughter bought two bags. The bags clip to the top of the frame. It holds 3 weeks (or more) worth of clothes and towels!!! She bought the additional bag so she could half the load to carry to the laundry room and she separates her colors in her room. I think the frame was less than $20 and the bags around $7. She lives at Presidential and the frame is a perfect fit inside her closet and takes up minimal room.

I had DD’s laundry bag made. I have a friend that sews that made it and embroided her name on it as well. She has 2, one for clothes and one for towels as they are not huge. It was way less than $50 for the fabric and to pay my friend to make them. And we got to pick the fabric we wanted!

Since D is in Tutwiler without a whole lot of room she likes the laundry bag over the baskets.

Another idea for Christmas, if you want to get Dorm stuff, is to go ahead and get a few boxes of the white wire twinkle lights. A lot of the girls like to have them hung up around their dorm all year with extra at Christmas, and there will be more out and available now than in the summer. We had to go on a hunt this past summer. For Graduation gifts for her group of girlfriends my daughter painted ceramic tiles with, “Never let anyone dull your SPARKLE” and sprayed it with a little glitter and gave each girl a tile and a box of twinkle lilghts. There were a lot of girls so this was a thrifty way to get each one of them something and not break the bank.

^^^ On the twinkle lights, you can also get the glass blocks at craft stores like Hobby Lobby. They already have a hole in the bottom for a cord to go thru. Use craft paper, scrapbooking paper, etc on the front (and back, great for different patterns). Adhere it using a lil modge podge. If you get the smaller blocks the piece needed is about 4"x4". Then use either a monogram letter, their future college logo sticker, other sayings (ex: ROLL TIDE), scrapbook stickers, etc to decorate it. Put a small string of twinkle lights or a regular night light cord/bulb (sold at Hobby Lobby with the blocks) in the block. Tie it off with some tulle in a big bow on top.

If you get them on sale (50% off this week at Hobby Lobby) this whole thing can be less than $10 depending upon the stickers and stuff you get.
