Laundry Detergent...?

Hey, this might seem kind of random, but is it necessary to buy laundry detergent at wustl? Or when you swipe your campus card to use the washing machine does that come with the use of laundry detergent? I'm buying my school stuff now and detergent is kinda expensive...so I want to know if I have to buy my own, or if I can use like some communal detergent in the laundry room.

Ooh and also...do the desks come with a little cabinet-type thing with drawers, or not? Because I'm buying some manila folders to file old papers and stuff...and I want to know if I have to buy an extra crate or something to put them in.

Wow - those are really good questions (to which I don't have the answer but would also like to know!). Why don't you also post it on the Wash U Class of 2012 facebook page? There are a number of students monitoring it and answers come quickly! WashU '12 | Facebook

You will need to buy your own laundry detergent for use in the machines. Some people accidentally leave their detergent in the laundry room and others will inevitably use it, but you should have your own.

I stayed in a room this summer during an ArtSci weekend, and my room's desk had two drawers that were about 3" deep and one drawer that was deep enough for file folders. I don't know about detergent for sure, but the orientation website ( orientation.wustl.edu ) suggests you bring it, so that's what I'm doing anyway.

I suppose we could try to set up some sort of "communal detergent" program to buy the stuff wholesale in 200 lb bales or something... :)
