Has anyone tried the "soapyjoes" laundry service? I'm trying to decide if this is worth doing for my freshman son....

Hi nymom. Hope all is well with you and yours. Soapy Joes is great. Well worth the money. They picked up my daughters' clothes sunday evening and she had them back all nicely folded the next day. I definitely recommend them and she will be using them again this year.

Thanks... it seems so indulgent.... but probably still worth it. I was trying to figure out how much it would actually cost him to do his own laundry? $10 / week? Which plan did you take? They recommend the 20/lb per week....

My son used University Mom- another service on campus. Worked well for him and I think he took the 20 lb. plan.

are they comparably priced? where do I find that information? My son brought home something from SoapyJoe's from orientation... but that's all I saw.

We have no personal experience with university mom, but I was really happy with the service provided by soapy joes. We used the recommended package. I don't think it was indulgent...it gave me peace of mind knowing that my daughter wasn't in the laundry room at all times of the night waiting for her clothes to be dry like some of her friends. Also, one of the first weeks, one of her shirts came back damaged and the owner was really accommodating...he wrote her out a check for the cost of the shirt ( a pricey one!) and threw in some extra coupons. He was really nice about the whole thing when he could have just denied responsibility. That earned brownie points in my book!

I think University Mom sends letters out over the summer. I frankly don't remember exactly why I signed up for one service versus the other, although it might be because of the schedule of the pickups. You should check which nights each service picks up and delivers from your particular dorm, as one or the other may work better for you if you have any evening classes or commitments. As I recall, my son signed up either right before or when he arrived at school.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'm definitely going to sign him up for one or the other.... so they have to be there to wait for the pickup/delivery. Isn't that inconvenient? What if something comes up? are they screwed for the whole week?
