hey, what percentage of kids at Dartmouth would you say pay for the laundry service, as opposed to doing it on their own????

Thanks.

Hardly anyone uses the service. And kids will laugh at you if you do. Everyone does their own laundry.

umm, about 1-2 people per floor, so … like less than 5%.

Do your own laundry. People will silently (or not so silently) judge you if you don’t.

do your own laundry; but we did use it one semester when d was injured and couldn’t get up and down stairs -let alone carry a basket- thought the service was very good.

I’m a senior at the college and have lived on campus for 3 years (going into 4th).
My freshman year, about 70% of the floor used the service.
My sophomore year, I lived in affinity housing (8 ppl total), and no one used the service.
My junior year, I was a UGA for a freshman floor. None of the freshman used the service.

Hope this helps.

Depends on who you know… I use it. My roommates who never had it use my service for the dry cleaning. Most people I know don’t use it… I don’t know about this judging thing. Truthfully, I think people tend to judge on whether you are a nice guy/gal, who you hang out, how you do in school (shallow but no more shallow than dry cleaning), etc. I still know half a dozen people using it… which would be about 10% of the people I would actually keep track of…

If you wear a lot of clothes that can simply be washed, then the service isn’t worth it. I tend to wear clothing that cannot be thrown in the wash… and therefore benefit from the dry cleaning service.

It’s not life or death.

I can’t remember anyone ever judging anyone for using the laundry service…perhaps I hang out in the right (wrong?) circles.

S’s roommate has it - S is happy and plans to throw in a few things now and then - hope the service doesn’t notice the size difference!

Son is a 2012 and appreciates the service. Has worked well. By the way, he also appreciated the True Value summer storage service-- picked up a futon, stereo, fridge, etc., and brought it to new dorm.

I heard about the storage service from the postmaster at Hinman. How does it work and how much?

my recollection is that it was a couple of $100 and depends on how much is involved. I would call True Value Hardware in Hanover. They schedule a time to pick it up before Summer or other breaks, and then you contract them when you return and get a new dorm assignment.
