Law Degree needed to get into Politics????

My Two Fields I LOVE are Sports and Politics, Polar Opposites I know. I want to Dual Major in Pol Sci and Journalism as my Undergrad and eventually move on to Law school. My Question is, with my Main Two Career paths wanting to be a Sports Journalist and Politician is it beneficial for my to still go to Law school? Or Would a Masters in Journalism and Politics aid me just as well. Be a Flat out lawyers is about 4th or 5th on my “Top Jobs List”. Is it beneficial in my case to go to law school or should I just pursue one or the other?

Thank you for your time.

Only go to law school if you want to be a lawyer. Decide whether you want to be a lawyer by working in a law office. Otherwise, don’t go.

I agree. And it depends on what you mean by “get into politics”. A Masters in Public Administration or Masters in Public Policy degree can get you into government positions in gov’t agencies etc.

Get into politics now. Don’t assume college magically prepares you. Even a hs kid can volunteer. In college, you can do something in a local office. Or work on political issues for the school paper. You don’t need to decide on law school for some time.

As in Run for Senate, Governor, Local Mayor etc and you know hopefully… The big One. President

How could I help out in the Local office?

@lookingforward @artie1 but the thing is I also love sports, so how could i preparemy self for a job in both?

It’s election season. Find a race nearby - anything from town government to a presidential campaign - and get involved. Knock doors, hold signs, etc., and then see what you like about the process, what roles you could see yourself playing in the future, and learn how people get those roles. (For the most part, degrees have very little to do with it, except when they help add substantive expertise, .e.g., economics, sciences, etc.)
