Whoa, this forum is dire and foreboding. I think I want to go to law school because I want a meaningful job in the area of policy and justice. So basically I'm looking for some comments, maybe encouragement if I'm lucky? I just really can't see myself in business or anything like that. I thought about maybe teaching for a couple of years since that pays decent and makes a difference.

Details: I'm I'm a Sophomore (rising Junior) at a respectable liberal arts school in the South. My GPA is okay. It's a 3.5 but will probably be lower after this semester (but I am certain I will graduate with a 3.5 or so). I haven't taken the LSAT yet, but I feel like I will get a respectable score on it. I hope. I'm majoring in Political Science and minoring (if that matters) in Environmental Studies at Rhodes College. If extracurriculars matter, mine will be pretty great. I'll have about 1700 hours of community service (scholarship requirement) and extensive volunteer experience. I'll also probably have 4 years of leadership experience on one of our boards and leadership in an environmental advocacy group on campus. So I know it's all contingent on my LSAT score, but...

I'd really like to go to a decent regional law school. I almost went to Tulane for undergrad. I also like Emory, University of Alabama, Vanderbilt (know it's a reach). I'm willing to go into debt to achieve this goal, because I know I'll always wonder if I could have done it. Just making my class schedule and some other plans is kind of making me really think about whether I should still try to go for it... I'd be willing to go to some lesser schools like Ole Miss or even University of Memphis. I really don't like AR or Knoxville so that knocks out those for me... If I thought I could pull it off I'd consider WashU (almost went to undergrad there) or a school in Chicago.

Career wise I'd like to probably practice in the South or somewhere in the MS River Valley.
