Lawrence EA

Anyone applying to Lawrence University EA??

S#1 has applied EA. Have heard that application is complete and that he will learn of decision by January 15.

I applied too. I got a call from admissions basically saying the same thing they told dadx3. I really hope I get in, it's one of my top choices.

My daughter applied early action. We received a holiday card from her admissions officer, who also said January 15.

Hindoo is your daughter thinking about any KY schools. I ask because I am from Ky and am trying to find in state schools like Lawrence. Lawrence seems to be the school I want so if there are any like it I would like to know.

Nick--Are you interested in Lawrence for it's music conservatory? If so, Oberlin would also be one to look at. ... My daughter has applied to only one Kentucky school--Centre. She would actually prefer to go out of state, having "been there, done that" in Kentucky for 17-plus years now. ... Other than Centre, I don't know much about in-state schools. Someone told me Bellarmine was pretty good. Are you looking for a small, liberal arts college? Transylvania has a good reputation, but my daughter wouldn't even consider it, since we live about two miles from campus!

I am looking for a smaller school, but I spent a few weeks on campus this past summer and was not impressed with the facilities at Transy. Bellarmine, not so much. Centre is on my list to think about, but its music program is not solid. Oberlin's students are for the most part a bit over the top for me. I am a pretty quiet laidback guy and some people I met from there are quite the opposite.

Sounds like Lawrence may be the school for you. ... My older daughter (now a freshman at Wooster) also felt the Oberlin kids were a bit "over the top," although being an old '60's hippy, I loved the green hair and odd appearances. ... Another possibility, Nick, might be Case Western. They give good merit money and I think they have a decent music program. Something to look into, at least.

To add to what Hindoo said, Case Western actually has a joint program with CIM, so if you're interested in a double degree that sounds like a good place to check out.

Has anyone heard their EA decision yet?

No. They told my daughter the 15th, and I guess that's what it'll be!

Argh. This wait is killing me. The 15th is this Monday and a holiday so hopefully we'll get them by tomorrow.

S got a call from an admissions officer Saturday the 13th saying he was admitted EA, and that the official letter was in the mail.

Still haven't heard anything here in Milwaukee so I'm going to guess the letters were mailed on Saturday (assuming they all went out at once). If a letter was mailed on Friday we most likely would have received it the next day here.

It's my assumption (based on a comment on the Lawrence website) that merit aid awards are communicated with the acceptance letter. Does anyone know if that's actually the case or not?

My D received a phone call Friday that she had been accepted EA. She is very excited. We live in California so those Wisconsin winters might take a little bit of getting used to but she's game. Her overnight visit to the school was great... loved the kids, classes and everything about Lawrence.

Mil, the merit awards were in the acceptance letter as I recall. Financial aid letter (email in my son's case) came a little bit later, like a week.

To all, congrats! My son is in his second year and loves it. He also loves the winters and he grew up with warmth and the sun. I guess it just snowed yesterday and it is like "wonderful." :)

We're in Kentucky and hoping to get our letter today. ... With our older daughter, merit aid was never communicated with the initial acceptance. Lawrence could do things differently, but I doubt it.

My daughter received a thick, oversized envelope from Lawrence today. She's not home yet, but I'm assuming from the size of it that it's an acceptance!

Terrific. Please let us know if the merit aid award was made concurrently. (Looking at your daughter's credentials, I'm sure she'll be offered!)

Strangely, we haven't received anything in nearby Milwaukee yet. I hope that doesn't mean bad news as Lawrence is certainly one of our favorites. It was the first visit we went on with our son and after about twenty minutes my wife and I looked at each other and agreed that we wanted to go back to school -- there. I know a number of extremely bright, successful people in both business and the arts who went to Lawrence and sing its praises. A very close friend went to Lawrence undergrad and Harvard Law afterwards and unhesitatingly says he got a better education at LU.

Just a quick note: we were told by Lawrence admissions that they mailed the letters to Wisconsin applicants today.
