Lawrence University Class of 2017

DS also got two great scholarships… but he wasn’t home when I posted earlier and I hadn’t opened the envelope. My husband and I are thrilled for him… he is waiting to hear from four more schools. Already has one other acceptance. He won’t rank his schools for us until he has all the decisions. :)

DS received his acceptance and a big scholarship offer today. Have to wait on financial aid package to determine if LU is in the running.

Has anyone gotten an email about the honor code recently (this past weekend)? Is it indicative of admission to LU? I have been gone for the past 3 days on vacation, but am really curious about this email.

My S got that email on Saturday and his acceptance package arrived on Monday, but I don’t know if they are related. We did wonder if the reference to the personalized LU license plate was a hint. I hope you arrive home to happy news!

Our son received that email and received his acceptance on the west coast today, along with an excellent aid package. We are looking hard at Lawrence, to be sure!

My DS2 received this email over the weekend as well and received his admission packet on Monday. I think that schools sometimes don’t check what’s going out in email with what’s going out in snail mail. Last year, my DS1 received two emails with information about admitted student weekends from schools that didn’t post their decisions online. He hadn’t received the decisions in the mail yet. We got a laugh out of that. He was accepted at both.

My husband and I both thought this was an odd email to receive from Lawrence at this time. There hadn’t been too many general emails recently. Im thinking that this was sent to admitted students and I’m guessing there will be an acceptance packet when you get home. :)

I received the email on Saturday, was accepted today with two ridiculously nice scholarships. Still have to finish up financial aid forms, but if financial aid turns out nicely as well then Lawrence is definitely on my short list.

IHRTLUHC My sophomore daughter has to post that code on every assignment she turns in, including tests and papers. Often she is given the opportunity to take tests outside of the regular classroom, and ‘honoring the code’ is very important. She didn’t get an email about it upon admission, but a postcard (one of many interesting cards) came in the mail during the admissions process that explained its meaning and importance. You will all see it often!

How exciting to find this thread because I’m usually in the music major section. My S received an acceptance to LU for Flute and French. The set amount music scholarship (doesn’t go up each year) was the highest they could give. All the flute lessons etc paid off. What is nice is that it is for all 5 years for the double degree. We are awaiting the financial aid package (turned in 2/13) to make the final decision between his acceptances, because the remaining is quite large to pay.

Oh and the acceptance mailed 3/15 arrived in So Cal 3/21 - grueling and we almost gave up on them.

S has chosen Lawrence and is attending the admitted student day later this month! Anyone else?

my daughter will be there. it’s between Lawrence and Oberlin

S2 has chosen Lawrence as well… but will not be at the admitted students overnight.

My son and I have just attended the admitted students’ weekend, and we were greatly impressed by the students and faculty we met, the classes and presentations we attended, and the campus amenities (including REALLY good food!) Lawrence clearly takes its academics very seriously, but there is a warm, fun-loving, and inclusive atmosphere about the place. Bayrunner, I’ll be interested to hear your D’s impressions of Lawrence compared to Oberlin. I’m an Oberlin grad myself … admittedly a LONG time ago! … and even though Oberlin is wonderful in many ways, if I were making the choice today between Oberlin and Lawrence it would not be an easy decision!

LOL, me too, Oberlin 1981. We were at Oberlin on Monday for their admitted students day. I had never heard of Lawrence before this year but everything I read makes me very curious and they certainly have their act together with communication. I just wish it were better known and I worry about how graduate schools view it.

Check the departments lists of where Lawrence grads go on to grad school. I think you will be impressed.

Lots of links between the two schools-my son is a legacy at both, since my husband and I are Lawrence grads, and my parents are Oberlin alums. I think it comes down to geography, personality fit, and teacher fit if you’re studying music. As a Lawrence alum, I can assure you that Lawrence is known and respected by graduate schools. It was a long time ago, but I got a great graduate assistantship, and my husband was accepted to a terrific law school. I don’t think you can go wrong with either school.

@jjjboysmom. Thanks for the info. Where can I find those lists? Not obvious to me on the website how to find them.

I should have looked at the NEW website before I spoke. My S1 and my S2 applied and were admitted, and I remember looking with S1 at where physics majors went on to grad school. This was last year. It was right on the physics department site and I was very pleased with where these kids continued their education. Now I can’t find it either. Sorry to send you on a wild goose chase. You could email the department your child is interested in and they should be able to tell you. BTW, S1 chose another small liberal arts school (although Lawrence was a VERY close second), but S2 will be attending Lawrence.

I know a friend that was admitted at Lawrence. It is really a good school but so underrated.Lawrence University has formal affiliation with Columbia University,Duke, and Washington University at St Louis through their cooperative degree program. So Lawrence even if its not known amongs people it is definently know among the top of the Top.Not to mention it is ranked closely to some of the top liberal arts colleges in the country.
