Lawrence vs Cincinnati vs U of Iowa

Well I hope your son got in!

To answer your question, I did indeed play two of the Steinways in their practice rooms. They were both quality pianos that could easily be used for performances save for the fact that neither of them were nine-footers. The only complaint I have is that neither of them were 100% in tune and the notices on the inside of the piano practice rooms seemed to indicate to me that nobody really comes around to tune them very often, unlike at some other high-caliber schools. It appeared that the school relies on students to keep the pianos in good order and holds them accountable to it, an interesting way of going about their millions of dollars worth of an investment.

Hmm… my D is a sophomore VP student at CCM. There were only 6 VP BM students in my daughter’s freshman year. (One has since dropped from the program, leaving 5 in the 2014 class.). Of those six, 2 were Interlochen grads, 2 were Walnut Hill grads and 1 CCM prep with Interlochen Camp experience. (Not sure of the other one’s background.) Suffice it to say, CCM is very selective for UGs (as well as grads). My D’s voice teacher told us CCM’s target for UG acceptance each year is 10. D accepted CCM over Eastman due to advice from professional contacts. She has not been affected by the Dean situation and I was not even aware of the problem before reading this thread.

Hmm, any idea how many undergraduate pianists they take? I’m sure the numbers are different because piano is probably a bigger studio and they prescreen the voice applicants but not us.
