Hi! I just had a few quick questions regarding the house system at Lawrenceville. Reading this site has been very helpful for me in my boarding school search, and I was hoping to get some input from real people. How exactly does the system work? I'm a little worried about being cut off from people in other houses, such as the fact that each house has their own dining room. Have you found this to be the case? Also, I would be entering as a new sophomore a.k.a. third-former boarder. Is it harder to make friends being new the second year, because tight house bonds have already formed?

OMGOMGOMG SAME. I AM APPLYING AS A NEW SOPHOMORE girl.
well i have one friend thats a current junior.
the freshman have their own house, so all sophomores are new to their house. the girls houses are Kirby, Carter, McClellan, Stanley, and Stephens i think…
i dont think you have to dine with your house since there is a separate dining center, but NO house bonds would be formed at the beginning of sophomore year since all sophomores are placed into a new house.

The houses don’t have their own dining rooms, they have pods in the dining center, which is very open, and you only have to sit with your house for one meal a week. You do become very close to the people in your house, but you also meet friends from classes, sports, clubs, etc. You don’t get your house until the summer before sophomore year, so everyone will be new. The best way to explain it is like a sorority. You are close to the girls in your house, but you also have lots of outside friends. Good luck!

ylax- yayyy! I am so nervous/excited! I reeeally like Lawrenceville, so fingers crossed for March 10! Do you know what time the login for descisions is available? I know some schools are at midnight, and others like 5 pm.

lolzbabe- thank you so much! That makes a lot of sense! I know that everyone gets new houses for Crescent, so that is helpful. I didn’t know about the pods because my tour guide didn’t show us the dining hall for some reason, and the Prospectus mentioned something about rooms. Thanks so much!

samesies its my first choice lawlz i emailed the admissions asking them and they said that i’ll be available in the MORNING. hmm… 1 in the morning ? ahahah but i think it’ll probably be there by 6 or 7 AM est.

hehe I will definitely be getting up early for school to check that out :)

I am an applicant to lville and I would also like to know this! I love their house system and the whole ambiance of the school, I just hope each house isn’t too close-knit, you know :)

houses are close knit but there is definitely a lot of interaction between other houses in class, sports, etc
