Lawrenceville

<p>Hello
My son is looking to apply to Lawrenceville next year. He is currently in 7th grade and we will soon be starting the application process. We live in NJ and the reason for considering Lawrenceville is that we have heard it offers great academics and attracts a lot of great talent, enabling the kids to be among the future best minds of the country.
Since we do not know anyone who attended Lawrenceville, can someone give us information regarding the application process and the expectation? Our son is very bright and very strong in academics. ( He is taking pre calc honors in 7th grade in upper school and always scores A or A+). His grades have been consistently A or A+ in all subjects. He plays violin fairly well and has been taking lessons for over 7 years. But he is not at all into sports. He plays tennis once a week and takes part in cross country and swim team in school but that's about it. His interests are very academic.
I'm interested in knowing how much emphasis is given to sports in Lawrenceville or Peddy and if this is lack of sports is considered a drawback in the application</p>

<p>Your son sounds very smart. First, are you full pay? Also, although his academics are very very good; schools also look for well rounded applicants. Academics themselves don’t always get an applicant in. Try to let his violin shine as another one of his talents, etc. Peddie would be a great back-up. Make sure he takes the ssat and scores well and also has a great interview and essays and I think he has a chance. I think if his academics are important, let them show more and pull attention more towards the fact he is in pre-calc. A lot of applicants are talented and that is a problem. Good luck!</p>

<p>Good luck! What magusalex has said is very accurate, but just remember that if you need financial and and/or are asian, it’s going to be a lot harder to be accepted.</p>

<p>I also applied to lawrenceville, but got waitlisted. I am also very advanced in math, having taken Calculus II at Rutgers in 7th grade. It might be different for you though!</p>

<p>Trust me - I am an Asian, play zero sport and got accepted to Lawrenceville as a sophomore! I think they’re looking for an interesting student, so I’m pretty sure it was my “weird” essay that got me in.</p>

<p>I was rejected at L’ville and needed FA :(</p>

<p>@EnemyOfTheSun You inspire me with those two sentences.</p>

<p>Enemy of the Sun, are you and international?</p>

<p>Yup. 10char</p>

<p>GO PEDDIE!</p>

<p>If you have any questions, let me know!</p>

<p>what IS FA?</p>

<p>financial aid.</p>
