Lazy Counselor?

I’m a junior applying for a scholarship that requires 3 letters of recommendation and i already have 2, but my Beta Sponsor, also my counselor, hasnt written me one yet. I have all my stuff done for the scholarship to be sent but that letter! I need to send the letter with my package and the whole scholarship package needs to be at the place (not postmarked) Jan. 8th! I gave the info to her like a month and a half ago. Isnt that enough time? It’s now christmas break and beforeI asked her about it and she said " ill call you." Should i be worried that it wont make it in time? If it’s not on time im automatically disqualified and ive worked sooo hard for it. Should i bug her about it? thanx

First, I wouldn't call your counselor lazy. Not only might the person happen to see the post here, but also the counselor may not be lazy at all.

Typically teachers, etc. do things like recommendations during their down times if possible. That includes things such as winter break. For heaven's sake, it's not even due until the week after next. Your counselor/sponsor has plenty of time to do it.

More than likely the counselor was also very busy in Dec. helping seniors who didn't get into their ED/EA schools or who have applications due around Jan. 1. They will take priority.

Also, what info did you give the counselor/sponsor? I hope you gave her a copy of your completed application plus a resume. That would show the counselor that you are serious about the application (You wouldn't believe how many selfish students ask teachers and counselors for recommendations, get the recommendations but never bother applying to the program!). It also would give the person useful info to include in the recommendation.

Send a nice, polite e-mail reminding her about the scholarship, the application mailing and due date, and asking if there is anything else she needs from you. If your school does not have e-mail, try leaving a voice mail message, but the written reminder is better.

And don't throw the word "lazy" around. If the counselor had dozens of seniors' applications with January deadlines to get out before Christmas break, she had to set her priorities. It's understandable that you're nervous, but that's no reason to insult someone who is working for you.
