Le Grand Concours 2017

Hi! Did anyone take Le Grand Concours this year? If so, what division were you in and what chapter of AATF? Did you receive your score yet? What level of French are you taking?

If you didn’t take it, have you ever taken it? What score did you get and did you place?

I took it and was in the high school division level 5 (Division A I think). I’m enrolled in AP French and I just received my score. Did better than expected.

You received your score already? I also was in 5A I think and I am also in AP French. I took it a few weeks ago. Do you know if scores are out for everyone? How did you access yours?

@sigfriedapple hey looks like we are in the same division  I got my score from my teacher at lunch today. She said she got an email with my raw score (placements in the chapter aren’t available yet and not for national rankings either). Perhaps you could contact your teacher for your raw score? I took it literally last week so I’m guessing raw scores are out for everyone who took it online. Did you do it on paper? If so, those for sure aren’t graded yet.

Oh yeah, I took it on paper. That makes a lot more sense because usually it takes like at least a month for scores to come out. I wish I’d taken it online now!

@sigfriedapple haha yea online was hard because I couldn’t mark up the test! What did you think of the test itself? I wonder if the online form is different :stuck_out_tongue: I’m in the SoCal chapter of AATF so hopefully I’ll at least place over here haha

@angelkitty247 I thought it was okay, and less stressful for some reason than the ones I’ve taken in the past, especially the listening which is always my weakest area. In the practice we did in class for the listening I could get like everything wrong for a section but on the test I felt more confident about it (maybe it’s because I was more focused, idk). I didn’t like how there were a lot of questions where you had to like interpret charts and tables, those were annoying. Did the online form have a lot of those?

@sigfriedapple I was the only person in my school to take the test, since my teacher doesn’t like the strong grammar focus. So, in comparison to the practice tests I took myself (since I prepared for the test by myself), I agree the actual exam felt easier, although I worry everyone will do well if we share the same sentiment. There were many charts which is kind of annoying since it doesn’t really test French knowledge, but I’m guessing the tests are the same since ou noticed the same thing. To me, the audio is usually rough and I got a lot less wrong then normal for me in that section. So fingers crossed! Do you take this test as part of your class or something?

Bump

@angelkitty247 We do practice for the test as a class because my teacher thinks it’s helpful, but only a few of us elect to actually take the exam. This year because of senioritis only three of us ended up taking it. It does seem like the test was perhaps a bit easier than normal which may mean the competition is closer. I don’t really know how they decide the scoring and awards stuff though.

@sigfriedapple Oh interesting haha well hopefully paper tests will be graded soon! i’m really curious to see how everyone else does because last year the curve was very high.

I took it last week for Division 2 and I got 68/70. I did it online so maybe thats why I have my result a lot faster

@collegeready33 what level of French are you in? Are you a senior?

I’m not sure if this applies to everyone, but when I took the test online I got my scores back as soon as I was done. All you have to do is go to the website you took the test on and enter your login info. Then go to completed assignments and it should be there.
