LEAD Summer Business Institute

So i had a question that’s totally unrelated to LEAD (seeing I didn’t apply) but this is a question directed at Wharton LEAD alumni:

How was the UPenn housing? I’m considering applying for a program there, but i’m kinda curious to how the housing is.

Re students applying to LEAD Summer Business Institutes and any other programs that emphasizes they want diversity and are particularly interested in under-represented minority students applying: what they mean, but they don’t want to be so crass as to say out loud, is that the program is not geared to accepting white students, even if they are lower-socio-economic white students. Students should not waste their time applying to programs that do not welcome them, there are plenty of other programs. If you ask these programs for stats (and as an independent college counselor and a parent, I have asked for stats) about the ethnic origin and/or race of the students accepted to these programs, they will not give that to you, and will continue to insist they judge everyone on their merits. It’s not true. Life isn’t fair, and you should just move on to programs that welcome students of all colors.
Good luck!

I was accepted, into the Michigan Ross School =] . . . how does this school rank in prestige to the others?

anyone else accepted?

i got accepted into Ross too!!!
did you receive any other info yet?

LEAD ALUMNI: Is it true that after particating in LEAD, the program has this thing where you can work for a company and LEAD pays for your arrangement?

Why the program is only for native american student

Hi guys!! I am applying to LEAD 2011!!
It says the application deadline is on January 25, when do you guys think is the latest I should apply? I have the essays, the app, and one recommendation form all ready to go. I haven’t received my PSAT score so I can’t send them and I’ll get my transcripts, the school form and the other recommendation in January when school resumes.Do you think I should send what I got now and then later on the rest or send it all together?
Also what do you think are my chances based on my stats? Here they are.

GPA: 4.0
Class rank: 1 or 2 out of 40
Ethnicity: Puerto Rican
haven’t received my PSAT scores so I can’t post them.

Essays: the first was on the 4% tax increase on foreign companies in Puerto Rico
and the second essay was on founding a red cross youth chapter at my school.

I have a lot of leadership positions I posted on my application.
What are your thoughts?

@wahkimoocow: I don’t know, this is the first time I’ve heard anything of that sort

@byxvera: LEAD isn’t only for Native American students, it’s for minorities

@rdpgn105: I would say try to wait until you have all of the required paperwork then send it together when school resumes, I also think you have a good chance just make sure based on your application you have something that sets you apart from other applicants since a lot of LEAD applicants are overqualified as well. Good luck! :)

Hi guys,

I’m looking to apply to this program too  I’m just not too sure what my chances are. Also, should I submit my online app first then finish the written portion or wait for the written portion to be done?

Think I can get into wharton? ^^

Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
GPA: 3.7 W, 3.5 UW (shoot me?) upwards trend… 4.2-4.3 this sem ; challenging courseload
Rank: 19x/600 ish. not exact, but top 30% (shooooot meeeee.)

(to explain the above, our school is divided between very smart people and very dumb people. the very smart people get 2350 SATs and 3.5-4.0 GPAs. The very dumb people are taking low level classes such as math 2 and acing them, thereby getting a 4.0 . only 10-15% of the student body are in honors/ap classes, but they are extremely rigorous and mess up the rank system)

SAT: 2220

ECs:

-own several websites + businesses making thousands a year
-invest in stocks, make thousands (may not include this)
-var track
-ebay business

targeted ecs, good SAT, terrible gpa + rank

I REALLY want to go… sigh. What are your thoughts?

Just a quick question, but on the first essay that says “Write an article…” does that mean actually write an article on what happened in business lately or to copy-paste one and cite it? I’m thinking it’s to write one but just wanted to make sure.

I read somewhere else that it said paste a recent article. If you want to make sure download the online application checklist. At least that’s what I did.

A question for people who have gone previously:
How many Asian (Chinese) people are accepted? I know the program is targeted toward minorities and I’m wondering if Chinese would “count” for this camp.

theres a good post on the Lead “2011!” thread

Help. Does the sat score report that was sent to my house count as an official copy of my sat scores.

Just sent in my application today!! Super pumped!! Now wait -_- Anyone else send in their apps?

@quickster94: There were no Asians at my LEAD (Kellogg/Northwestern) but I saw a Chinese girl in the LEAD Wharton 2010 pics on facebook :)

@Borolarbear: Was the score report directly from the college board? If so I would just make a copy and send it. At the time I was applying to LEAD I hadn’t taken the SAT yet so I just made a copy of the PSAT report from the college board and sent that.

Anyone who got accepted can you give me an estimate of my chances?

Chinese
3 Years Lacrosse, Freshman/JV team
Junior Class President
15 hours Volenteering at Womens Shelter
Prom Committee
2180 SAT
202 PSAT

Essay was about me leading my team to a lacrosse tournament champion ship and steve jobs on leave, pretty good essays 400-500 words each
pretty good recommendation letters me thinks

Another question how many people here are athletes?

I am a varsity field hockey and crew athlete… I didn’t list it though because I thought it said to focus on businees-oriented ECs
edit: I just realized you mentioned lacrosse in your essay so I think that’s a great idea.
