Does MIT talk about leadership on campus? What would that look like at MIT? Other colleges have leadership as a core part of their mission statement but I don't know MIT well enough to get a sense of whether it values students who are strong leaders in various ways.

I know they have a lot of opportunities for Leadership - one place to start might be with the FPOP (Freshman Pre-Orientation Program) before Orientation starts:

FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (FLP)

The Freshman Leadership Program immerses freshmen in a process of personal development that enables them to discover their own definition of leadership and to explore what it means to be a leader. FLP accomplishes this through a curriculum focused on inclusivity, empowerment, value defining, and leadership skill building. Students participate in workshops, activities, and discussions where they encounter various social issues, including but not limited to multiculturalism, diversity and gender roles, racism, sexism, and religious and socioeconomic issues. FLP is a unique program that is guaranteed to be both fun and rewarding.

There’s plenty of opportunities. I went to a weekend leadership retreat called Emerging Leaders Conference at MIT’s Endicott House (a very nice place). It’s was very fun and I met a lot of new people. There are also plenty of other opportunities throughout the year, such as Leadershape and the Freshman Leadership Program that marciemi mentioned.

Thank-you for the responses. It seems there are some opportunities to explore leadership at MIT. Thanks again!

At our campus preview weekend (class of 2016), I went to a bunch of entrepreneurship meetings/mixers and you could clearly see the presence of leadership on campus. EVERYTHING at MIT is student run - the dorms, the events, the clubs, and even some of the classes. The administration is awesome and they guide us through our success, but they let us explore and create so many cool things, and lead them. I love MIT and I can’t wait to start all sorts of crazy clubs :)

As a parent, I do like that the administration is involved to a degree, helping to guide students if they ask for help but giving them freedom to pursue leadership in areas of interest.

Mit doesnt care at all about leadership!!! All you do is math math math math math math math math math and science science science and stress stress stress stress and math math math math math!!!

Aaaaahahaha… I like you, White Fang. :)

Work work work work work work work. Moles and Trolls. Moles and trolls. They never see the light of day. We had nobody at the mutant hamster races, we only had one entry in the Madame Curie contest, and he was disqualified later…
