I believe they come out Februrary 1st!

Thanks so much, Natalie175. I guess if the student doesn’t get the invitation to Leadership weekend, he or she is out of the running …

Your student will get a letter either way. D applied for Leadership Fellows and wasn’t selected to make it to the round that attends Fellows Weekend, and they sent her a very nice letter letting her know.

I think you may also find out on On Track also.

Chiming in a little late here, but I wanted to let people know that even if their child is not invited to the Leadership weekend, or chosen as a scholar, they CAN still be part of the leadership program in the “LEAD program.” The Center for Leadership home page on the main Elon website has a full explanation.

My daughter was invited to the weekend but was placed on an alternate list for the Leadership fellows. The weekend was SO worthwhile and probably the reason she went from being lukewarm about Elon, to deciding she would want to attend.

As a freshman, she opted to apply for the Leadership Elon 101 group and found it to be a wonderful experience. She was then encouraged to apply as an Elon student program director for a leadership seminar for N.C. youth, and got the job as a freshman. She now works in the Center for Leadership, and is on the LEAD team. She also applied for and got a leadership travel scholarship for her London study abroad, where she will also be attending a leadership seminar, courtesy of Elon!

She considered lateral entry into the Fellows program second semester freshman year but decided she couldn’t fit the classes in.

Just wanted to tell those whose children didn’t get invited, or don’t get chosen as a Fellow, there are lots of other ways to be a leader at Elon - just get involved and the opportunities will come.

Anyone know what time we can expect to hear tomorrow?

My S got the email at midnight inviting him for the fellows weekend. I did not see anywhere that it replaces Spring Orientation…the schedules are totally different. Please let me know if I am wrong about that.

My D who was deferred EA (and is now accepted) was invited to the Fellows weekend also. But she’s going for communications, not Leadership. It the email after midnight last night.

Congrats bgkmom! I was wondering the same thing. My son woke up to an email as well and we were looking at the schedules. We were planning on attending the March Orientation. It looks like a great opportunity to meet other incoming freshman and really learn more about Elon. The fellowship weekend schedule is completely different…specifically about the opportunities the fellowship offers. Others had posted that there was overlap, but looking at the two programs, I am not seeing it either.

MomTheChauffer- Double congratulations! So happy for your daughter:)

You do not need to attend both. the Fellows weekend will cover everything you need.

Congrats to you guys too!! I think we are going to try to do both weekends…I think my S will be able to meet more people on the Spring Orientation Weekend. It also says nothing about registering for classes or getting student ID’s on the fellows weekend…

We attended Fellows week-end last year with S, and found it to be a great experience. We did it instead of Spring Orientation, and did not feel like S missed too much, other than getting his phoenix card/id - not a biggy at all since we did that easily enough on move-in day. I think he also missed registering for classes information, but again, he was able to figure that out online. I would say, however, that Fellows week-end was much more of a selling week-end for Elon than I had anticipated. Many of the information sessions were geared towards convincing kids that Elon was the school for them. Since S was an ED admit, this messaging wasn’t necessary for us. He also met a few kids that week-end that ultimately did not choose Elon. Not sure how this compares with Spring Orientation, and if those kids have mostly committed to Elon.

When all was said and done, he was not chosen for his fellows program, and looking back, he is now glad that he wasn’t. If your child is a fellows candidate, take a good look at the program and see if it fits their desires (admittedly hard to do this early on.) S is happy that he is not boxed into the specific curriculum, and has more freedom to choose other classes and when and where he studies abroad. The scholarship was what was really driving the interest, but in the end it has worked out best for him that he was not chosen. Good luck everyone, and have fun - ANY week-end at Elon is worthwhile!

PS - when you visit campus, take a good look at all the dorm options - you will be glad you did when it is time to register for housing!!

Thanks for the info Embrace! I will definitely follow your advice and get more info on the requirements of the fellows program:)

I did speak to Admissions today about whether DS needed to attend both weekends. I was told that fellows weekend is mostly about the fellows programs and that Orientation had a different agenda with information on registering for classes and was a great opportunity to meet other students. I have a feeeling both weekends are used to convince kids to attend or at least that they made the right choice.

Also would like DS to do both, but financially it may not make a whole lot of sense to fly to NC two weekend in a row.

We live in NJ and were told it was not necessary to do both and as 2kidzmom noted it did not make financial sense for us to do both. If we lived within a reasonable driving distance we might have done both. The fellows weekend really helped my son decide that Elon was where he wanted to go. It was between Allegheny College and Quinnipiac U . He visited both of those institutions twice but only needed one visit to know Elon was the one for him.

Does anyone know how many usually compete for business??

My D was admitted and received her invitation to interview for the Honors and College Fellow programs during the weekend of March 8-9. However, with 2080 SAT, 4.8 W/3.96UW GPA, top 2%/class of 680, she did not receive the Presidential Scholarship. D does not have a top choice school; something attracted her to all she applied to. (I’m still waiting for the “AHA” moment.) Considering top 20% admitted are awarded Presidential scholarship and even less an honors and college fellow, she’s not sure if she should attend the weekend at all. We’ve already visited Elon and best friend’s sister is current student. Suggestions… advice… comments…

Mindylouhoo – I say go for it. I’ve heard great things about the Fellows weekend, and the best thing she can do is get on the campuses that she likes and try to get a feel for each school. Attending would certainly give her an in-depth idea of the school and the students who would be her peers. If she was invited, then I’d assume she’s a viable candidate and I’d take advantage of the opportunity. (I read that the Fellows program is looking for a specific type of student, so just because she didn’t get the presidential doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be a great match for the Fellows programs).

Mindylouhoo- Have you called the admissions office and inquired as to why she wasn’t offered a presidential scholarship? It may have just slipped through. Her stats are certainly very strong. IMHO it is worth a phone call. They may offer to take another look . Good luck!

Does anyone have any info on what the weekend is like for Business fellows?
