Hi, I am a junior in high school and I will be applying for college in fall!
I did Student Council (=ASB) President (the grade system is different in the country I previously resided in – 9th grade was the highest grade for middle school) for one year - in 9th grade - and I was wondering if I should put that on my ec list for common app / uc app? For some context, I came to the United States the beginning of 10th grade from an Asian country.
I would have loved participating in student council here in the US, too, but I simply did not get the chance to (I had difficulty adjusting for a while). I know that having a leadership role is important & that it is very emphasized when applying to colleges. Therefore I was planning on writing my ASB pres experience from Asia in 9th grade. However, my counselor here told me that colleges like commitment – for example, participating in the same EC for three years.
I am a very social, outgoing person, but moving to the US was a definitely difficult transition. I love being in charge of things, reaching out to people, and planning activities… and I DO want colleges to know that. So the question is, should I write my leadership experience, although I only did it for a year??
Thank you in advance!!
