Okay right now I'm in 3 clubs, Academic Decathlon, Gifted Association, and FBLA.
Does Cornell care if you are like president of the club since freshman year, or if you are just president just junior year, or senior year?
I ask this because no matter how hard I try to become an officer, I just get beat by the upper class students :P I know I can become an officer when I'm a junior/ senior, so what will it look like, does Cornell understand the popularity involved or not?

I don’t think it’s reasonable to be an officer freshman year because you haven’t done anything for the club to show you’re dedicated. So I think it’s fine that you are junior or senior ( i was finally elected class president junior and senior year and i’m waiting to hear back from cornell)

To be honest, do work in your club. don’t be the slacker and be the unreliable kid. people will realize this and vote for you. Yes, it is a popularity contest, as much as people will tell you it isn’t or shouldn’t be, it is. also, start telling people that you’re interested in running for office next year. At my leadership activities, we encourage executive prospectives to come to our exec meetings to see if they would actually enjoy being in executive positions or if they want to do it ( you’ll see how much time it takes, as a heads up, it takes a ton of time). If your school offers this, do it. Sometimes, ( i think this happened with me to be honest) they will rig the votes in your favor because they know you’re passionate. I know this isn’t exactly democratic, but it keeps the club/leadership committee moving forward. Good luck.
