Leadership positions

It's the time of year when clubs are starting to accept officer positions. Being a competitive person, I am practically applying for all of them. This wouldn't be a problem if other students in my school were not competitive, but they are. I seem to be stepping on a few toes while trying to get these positions.
I was just wondering what would be an impressive amount of positions one should have to look impressive. I am guaranteed 4 positions. Is that good?

One position in something you are deeply committed to would be awfully nice. Just remember when stepping on toes that there will be recommendations to be written very soon.

My D was president of two clubs this year and it was stressful and tiring trying to direct all the club activities along with her classwork and other activities. Some clubs are more active than others of course but I would limit your positions to two or three that you care most about so you can do a good job. Otherwise you will just be running into schedule conflicts and getting stressed.

I think four is too many. One or two done well would be better than shotgun resume padding.

Bingo! You've been given good advice. Don't overestimate the influence of your ECs. Remember that schools will first and foremost look at your GPA and schedule rigor. Make sure that those are given your maximum effort -- while finding an EC or two that you really enjoy can expand your experiences -- in and of itself ECs don't propel you fwd nor will one less EC position put you behind others who might have a "title".

I was in band, an senior officer in my JROTC battalion, worked part time and played IM sports. Had excellent grades in the most rigorous schedule possible in one of the city's top schools. I was admitted to all schools applied, eventually matriculating at a HYP college. Best of luck to you Sr. year but don't fret about the club "positions"
