Leadership Positions

I want to know how important it is to have more than one leadership position in your application. I'm already the President of a political organization at my school, but is that enough? I was thinking about running for Student council president or 12th grade president, but is it essential? I dont know if its worth the time it will take to do....

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

The biggest thing they’re looking for is your dedication to that you do, whether that involves one club or two. You shouldn’t add the student council piece unless it’s something that you will take seriously and work passionately toward. If you’re doing it to say you did it, it probably won’t help you that much.

Well said. Basically true of most things with Columbia admissions. You don’t get points for collecting titles.

you guys misunderstand, the main main reason i would run is to help my school. im not like that. i was just curious about how it looks on the application. thanks for the input.

If it wouldn’t help your application any bit, would you still run? If the answer is no, then the main reason isn’t that you want to help your school. If the answer is yes, then there’s no point in asking the question in the first place.

This is poor logic, dude. Consider how the case where 80% of why he wants to run is to help his school and 20% is to help his Columbia application fits into your model.

Yeah, I caught that after I posted. But, I think it still stands. I’m not answering the question of whether he should do it. I’m answering the question of whether helping the school is the main reason why he’s doing it versus pimping his application.

I doubt having it will hurt your application either…
