Hey everyone, I applied to Berkeley OOS and I feel like I'm not a very competitive applicant for general admission, but i do have a lot of leadership ( my nickname at school is ruler of the city, i'm president of a lot of things and in a few state/city committees) Does this scholarship thing indicate that I actually have a shot at Berkeley? I honestly doubt it, maybe I do because I said I would pay and not need any financial aid? I have no idea. Any input is great. Thanks.

I got the same leadership scholarship email… what does it mean if anything?

i got this email also I was going to ask the same thing but I saw this thread lol

“Your receipt of this scholarship invitation does not in any way reflect on your application for admission to UC Berkeley. You are no more or less likely to be admitted to UC Berkeley because you have received this invitation, and your decision to apply or not apply for Cal Alumni Association scholarships will not affect your application status.”

Possibly emailed to everyone?

Doesn’t mean anything.
Prob. sent to everyone…

It was sent to everyone. They are encouraging everyone to apply for it.

I believe sometime after they announce admissions decisions, they also email you whether or not you qualify as a finalist for this scholarship, for which you have to interview for. My interview was sometime in May so I think they probably announce results around then.

Would applying/receiving the scholarship be binding you to go there?

No.
Only the people who have already confirmed they are coming to Berkeley receive the scholarship. Like I said, the finalists (people who get interviewed aka move on to the next found) aren’t even notified until end of April or May, and I’m pretty sure to be a finalist you have to have already said you are coming to Cal for sure.

Are international students eligible for this award?

The Alumni Association does its own screening of applicants and invites a set of applicants whose credentials are in line with the missions/values of the scholarship. The invitation is not an indicator of admission status (in the past few years, about 50% of the scholarship applicants are accepted to the campus). The scholarship is open to all applicants and CA residency is not required.

Just want to clarify some things:
Being invited to apply for the scholarship does not guarantee acceptance.
Becoming a scholarship finalist does not guarantee acceptance.
Only matriculants will receive the scholarship if selected.
International/OOS students may apply. If they become recipients, they receive a little more (~$500).

I got an email and a letter about the Alumni Achievement scholarship. I’m assuming it’s the same as with the Leadership scholarship in that it doesn’t mean anything, right?

i got this twice, once a couple of weeks ago and again today… is it like a glitch or do we really have to apply? idk if i’d even get in so im wondering?

You don’t need to apply. You are simply invited to apply.
