Hey guys! I wasn't sure where to post this, but I figured High School Life would be good. I need some advice on, I guess, how to get leadership roles. That sounds pretty generic, so let me explain. "Leadership," as in student government and the ilk, is my passion, and it is also a big component in the career field I am interested in. I'm finding it really hard, though, to be able to get any leadership positions, in any clubs at all. Over the course of 4-5 years, I have run for multiple offices and gotten only a very few, and those mostly by teacher appointment. Now, I'm failing to even be able to get appointed offices. I know no one can win everything, but I'm getting very discouraged, since the only way to be a part of many of these organizations is through an elected office. I really want to have the opportunity, but I can't seem to achieve it, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any help?

become more popular

I agree with you. Most elections are solely based on popularity. Which is a rather discouraging thing.

In my school, I suggested that the teacher set requirements for the ability to run for student government; such as a reasonable GPA, somehow shows interest in making the school better in any way possible, and having a teacher recommendation to prove that you’re worthy to be part in making some crucial decisions for the school.

Can you start your own club or student group?
