I play on my high school team and I've won 2 school wide tournaments and 1 district wide tournament. My team and I also placed top 16 nation wide through High School Starleague. I'm the captain and coordinator for my team/school. I'm wondering if putting this on my UC/Common application will be beneficial or not. I've been hearing different answers from people I know. Thank you.

Yeah, go for it!

It might look a little dorky, but most things look dorky on a competitive UC app! haha

I’m not worried that it would look dorky. I’m worried that it might negatively affect my app. Bump

May I respectfully suggest that many Admissions Officers, application “readers,” and Admissions Committee members may by 40+ years old and, perhaps, have no idea what League of Legends is.

Have a look at this article, and take from it what you may…

<a href=“Why I put World of Warcraft on my resume”>http://money.cnn.com/2014/06/19/technology/world-of-warcraft-resume/

LOL OMG… im sorry, im dying over here

So basically it could go either way…

I have no idea what this is, so I googled League of Legends.

Am I correct to interpret that this EC is a video game club at your high school? Does it require you to interact with other people face to face? If so I would be inclined to include it. (If this is just online connectivity and you are isolated in your room playing the game, I am less inclined.)

If this is what is important to you and you have accomplished at it, I don’t see it as a true negative. It could be positive if you are applying with interest in a computer science program or similar.

If I saw this on a resume/application (and remembered what I googled today) I would assume you were nerdy, indoor kid who liked to play video games a lot. You may or may not want to present that image to admissions committees.

I think it’s totally fine to put it on… if you frame it correctly. Don’t let it sound like you just sat in a room by yourself and played video games all the time. You organized and led a student group and helped your team collaborate to win. And yes, you should probably explain exactly what league of legends is.
