Leap Between Sophomore and Junior Year

Hi, I was wondering how much people tend to leap on psat scores from sophomore to junior year? I'm pretty much freaked out from my terrible scores on psat as a sophomore. However, I did no practice whatsoever and I think my hard classes are helping me with vocab and math and stuff more. Are there any amazing leaps out there??? THankS.

I'm with you. However I think I understand FAR more now and I actually think about what I do now. At the PSAT I was talking to friends almost the whole time. There to be a leap for me or it is just not worth living and will kill myself. Just kidding, but I will make it happen!

A lot of people jump up a bunch. Most people learn more math (and often English) between fall of sophomore year and fall of junior year. They also have a better idea of what to expect, which helps too. Oftentimes, they also take it more seriously because it's their last official practice test before taking SATs.

My best suggestion would to look at the score report for your PSAT and see what types of problems (geometry, vocab, etc.) you had trouble on. Then you can work on the types of material you had the most trouble with. You get a detailed score report, so take advantage of it.

@Amandeep--if you were actually talking to friends (at my school they would never allow that...do they not monitor your tests or something?), then if you concentrate next time, I would expect your scores to jump a lot just from that.

I did not experience a great leap--I went from 222 to 224--but that's pretty high already, so I wasn't really expecting it to leap that much. I know kids whose scores lept a bunch though. There's a guy I know whose score went from 176 to 202 or something along those lines.

Most of all, don't be discouraged. A lot of people leap up. Treat it as a chance to improve, but don't believe that a PSAT determines your SAT score. The PSAT is there so you can get a sense of the test. That way, when the SAT rolls around, you'll be ready for it.

Someone at my cousin's school went from a sophomore psat of 170 to a junior psat of 221...and this is not hearsay, I know the person, and he showed me both of his reports...

Poetrygirl - Apparently nobody in my room took it seriously. I always thought practicing for a Practice SAT is kind of stupid but anyway I will definitely improve.

i improved 54 points... so 540

I went from a 198 to a 231
