So I've accepted admission to U of M and now I'm thinking about my housing options. I think I might want to join a learning community- either the Health Sciences Scholars Program or Women in Science and Engineering, since I plan on being Premed and don't want to be stuck on North Campus... but is the Hill Neighborhood far from where I would have classes? Any advice on which community would be a better fit for me, which residence hall- Couzens, MoJo- is better, etc.
Is it difficult to get accepted into these learning communities? Are there any academic requirements that come with being part of a community?
Thanks in advance :)

Anyone? :)

MD, some of the learning communities are on Central Campus. My daughter, who is in med school now, was in HSSP and she was in the Lloyd dorm her freshman year. Couzens is a great dorm. My son had a cousin who lived in it (she did the Community Scholars LC) and he said it looked like a hotel since it’s renovation. My son participated in the MRC in Mosher-Jordan (next door to Lloyd). These are wonderful dorms and have been fully renovated. They are close to most of your classes, the libraries, fraternities and sororities (if you are interested in Greek life) and State Street.

You need to go the Learning Communities website [Michigan Learning Communities | University of Michigan](Michigan Learning Communities (MLC) | U-M LSA) to learn more about each one and the process of applying. It requires an essay. I think the Women in Science/Engineering was also in my son’s dorm, but they have an all female floor. He didn’t get to know them very well.
