So I'm pretty sure I am going to attend IU and I'm looking through this housing pamphlet. I want to know how much these learning communities actually effect your study life. I am really a sports fanatic, so I am considering joining a sports and society LC. However, this community seems like it would take away from my education, and make me less productive. I am not majoring in something that has to do with sports, so I really think it will hurt me. I'd like to hear what the rest of you are doing...

I am doing the Foster International LLC, but that has an educational component. One of the main reasons that I decided to join an LLC was so that I didn't feel alone in a big dorm. Also, with a LLC, you know exactly which dorm you are applying to, instead of only the neighborhood. Foster Quad is air-conditioned! Regardless of what you choose, submit your application as soon as possible; assignments are made on a first come- first serve basis. You can change your preferneces later but your priority date will remain the same. So, apply early.

While you are going to school to learn you ahve to have some sort of social life. This may help you out a bit. It would only take over if you let it. I am probably going to be in the Honors Dorms but I have heard throgh the grapvine it can get pretty there so take it how you will. You can always get away from some of the stuff. Don't take the LC too seriously they aren't designed to take away from the academis experience. If current students disagree give me a heads up don't want to sound like a complete idiot.

Thanks for the responses. Phyllo you said that when you apply for a Learning Community, you know exactly what dorm you are applying for. All I can find is what neighborhood the community is in, not the specific dorm.

I was not referring to learning communities, I was referring to living learning centers.
