I am looking into the Whitman Learning Community but have some concerns. What are the people like who choose to live there? Do they have a social life? Is it a good experience? How are the dorms in DellPlain? If anyone knows anything about this learning community or learning communities in general and DellPlain Dorms...please help!! Ohhh and if you are in a learning community is there time to do other extracurriculars? What is the retreat that this LC goes on??

I know I have responded to you before and it would be nice to hear from a student; but I’ll throw in my two cents again. My D is in the LC for Whitman and absolutely loves it. I can’t say that there was a certain type of student who chose to live there - it’s probably not too different than any other freshmen floor. The students became pretty close with each other and helped each other with the 3 classes that they shared (especially math which was due at midnight every Saturday online). This year, they went white water rafting together. They also had a chance to get close to some of the faculty who met with them on a weekly basis. At the end of the semester, the faculty took them all to nice restaurant in downtown Syracuse. One of the best things is the location of DellPlain - right next to the new Ernie Davis the a nice gym and new cafeteria and in between Whitman and Newhouse.

Thank you!!! I would love to hear from a student but thank you for your “two cents”.
