Do college classes teach languages more effectively than high school ones? I never felt I learned anything from my high school spanish classes and remained at the same semi-fluent level for the four years I was taking it. I'm considering starting another one, probably Chinese, in college and studying abroad but if its like it was in high school I might just try to go abroad completely untrained and pick it up.

College required a lot more time and effort, however it's paid off quickly. I went to Switzerland after only a semester of German 101 and was able to hold a conversation over there with a native by speaking German.
