Learning the names of bones

Son and I have been acquiring his “stuff” for his apartment, mostly Craig’s List for furniture, ross and tj maxx for linens and macy’s and jcpenney’s for kitchen stuff…they had a great 40% off clearance prices for housewares combined with a $10 off $25 coupon…CLEANED UP!!! Nice pots and pans set 14 piece for $19.99 reg. $149…so if he burns the bottoms it won’t matter!

He decided on the 2 bdr 2 bath 1400+sq feet $731 per month and is getting a roomate to split the costs, so he is a happy camper. Place is 2 miles from med school, has a shuttle every 10-12 minutes which runs past 2 am, a full gym with pool, 24 hour access.

But the med school is on a campus 10++ times the size of his undergrad with gorgeous athletic facilities…helped with his med school decision, I told him eventually he would bleed Carolina blue!! I can’t wait for basketball season, that’s what I’m talking about!! And football and baseball…Better than high school!!!

I told him Boston would be cold and dreary and just dreadful while here it is sunny and Carolina girls are so stinkin’ cute…and basketball and football and baseball…

He did say Michigan would also offer similar incentives! but I countered with running outside in the winter, Carolina blue skies and a tuition scholie…I WIN!!

So we have been having a blast, driving all over the furniture capital of the US in my lovable old truck, trying out Franklin St., and buying myself a Carolina t-shirt and sweatshirt!

All those years of “the boy” making me crazy is sooooooo worth it. He is home after being gone for undergrad and he is a hoot! He bar tended at his undergrad so he knows how to make the best drinks! He has traveled with his friends and is still traveling and he brings them home so we get to meet them, esp. now that he will be here for med school.

Joy, joy, joy!! I missed my kittens so terribly while they were gone (my posts from years ago on CC!), but they have all managed to find their way home, for now. so happy!

With D. it is much more complicated. I was happy to buy linen set, because she liked it, I did not care much for price. At least, I did not need to look more and more. We have baught most smaller stuff at BBB as we had 20% off cuopons. Bedroom set we baught at Value City furniture, and desk at Office Max. It has been fun, but very time consuming, as D. mostly was not at home. We have also visited practically all furniture stores in our home town, but nothing was even close style wise to what we were looking for, except for Value City.

"2 bdr 2 bath 1400+sq feet $731 per month and is getting a roomate to split the costs, "

-Wow, wow, wow!!! We will be paying $815 for small studio and no roomate. Oh, well, it is such a low percentage of D’s Med. School cost, it is not even worth mentionning.

MDAP,

DD has just finished her second year. Columbia begins their clinical year in the middle of MS2 so she is well into her rotations. Their calendar is a bit different for Step 1 as well - she has a chunk of time off at the end of this year to study and will take it in Feb 2012 (I think.). She plans to take a research year between MS3 and 4 and will graduate in the spring of 2014.

^Best wishes!

Going to the gym is also a high priority item for DS. He prefers running, but his doctor asked him to scale down his running in order to avoid a knee problem in the future. The urban setting is not ideal for running anyway.

He stored most of his belongings in a storage space and will ask the storage company to deliver his stuff to him when they are needed. (I wonder how much he will actually need though as he will live in a dorm room.) It is cheaper than flying/shipping the stuff back home which is over one thousand miles away, and he will not have a car to drive around to shop/furnish himself at the school after the school starts so it may be easier in this way – we are not going to be able to help him move in. He probably discarded many junks accumulated over the years in the process.

Thank you MiamiDAP…same to your daughter. It is a very exciting time for her.

^thanks. Tomorrow at 10:30am is the first session. We are all driving in 2 cars at 6am.

Have fun Miami!!! So very excited for y’all!!!

Kat

The school snail mailed a book for MS0 to read over the summer. (maybe some bioethics related book? Not very sure.) The book report will be due before the orientation. The school starts to get the attention of the students.

Miami, your D and family seem to have a lot of fun. Wish her (and Kat’s S, Ellen’s D and Kristin) a very good school year.
