Learning to Play Drums?

For all you crazy metal rocker kids out there (I know there are 1 or 2 on CC!), I’m interested in pursuing a drum career and I’d love for you to answer a few questions. You don’t have to answer them all.

How the hell did you get your parents to buy you a drum set? Or did you use a friends, or a practice pad first? Those things are hella expensive!

Who gave you lessons? How did you start out?

Compared to more traditional instruments (ie piano, guitar, clarinet), is it harder or easier to learn to play the drums? Are there any similarities?

How much time do you practice? How hard is it to learn new techniques?

How’s the pain factor? Do your wrists and forearms ache? I know some people in hardcore bands have to wear wrist guards and ACE bandages all the time.

How big is your drumset? Is it a pain in the proverbial to bring it anywhere?

Do you have big sexy biceps?

What’s the best thing about drumming.

I’m looking to hopefully get a practice pad or hang at my friends house and learn to play by myself. This techinque worked really poorly with guitar because guitars are complicated (tuning and amps and strings oh my!) and because I have a abnormally short index finger that prevents me from playing well. Plus, I don’t have the time or resources to get a real teacher. So I’m wondering if drums is a good solution for me.

bump??????

If you have perfect rhythem, drums is EASY AS HECK for you.
I personally don't find drums difficult at all, I learned how to play with a church band in 2 days with no practice. Its basically about keeping on rhythem and finding fills.

i played drums in middle school but i lost interest and my brother instead really got into them. but now i'm starting to regain interest.

I already have pretty decent rhythm because I always make beats on the desks at school lol. all the other kids are doing simple, "hit with one hand, then hit with the other" while I'm doing 3 things at once.

That's what drumming is. All about coordination and rhythm.

Drumming Is So Fun When Banging On Desks~!!!

I've seen this arcade game that involves playing drums. My friend who plays drums said that its actually fun practice, doing expert mode for him of course. Not sure if they have it at all arcade, but it might be cool for you to start there? Seems silly, but those guitar/drum arcade game actually help you with hand coordination.
