Learning to play the guitar

I heard it's pretty easy to self-teach?

What kind of guitar should I get? A cheap, beginner one or a quality one?

How do I go about teaching myself? Where do I start?

Guitar is semi-difficult to start off with, easy to become a decent beginner at, and difficult to get good at.

As for what kind of guitar you should get, it depends on what kind of player you want to be. A lot of people end up getting a crapload of guitars, one for a particular style. There are guitars for people with small hands (Little Martins), and then there are guitars for finger pickers with wider fretboards, and then there are generic acoustic guitars. But since you’re just starting out, you probably don’t need one of those expensive guitars with wood from Brazil or something lol. Don’t be too cheap, but don’t go for anything too crazy. You could get a decent guitar for like 200-300 bucks and it should start you off well.

Lessons would help a ton, or you can just go online and find guides and stuff. Or go on Youtube and watch the lessons

Lol…It’s definitely not as easy as it looks to self-teach - (and this is coming from experience). It’s just it requires A LOT of patience and dedication - which can get a bit frustrating at times.

I’m not so sure if you’re planning on getting an acoustic/classical/electric, but as far as price range goes: I recommend a getting decent one (I guess ~$150-$200? lol - I’m bad w/ numbers. Take with a grain of salt) if you are absolutely serious about it and you won’t quit, like, after 2 weeks. The problem with getting a cheap one is that people tend to give up easily b/c of the issues they have with it. Please don’t blow up something like $1000 on your first guitar…

(Oh …try to stay away from “starter kits” as tempting as they may be in terms of price and features. They usually give you lower-end guitars that can sound pretty awful)

Youtube = one of the best free teachers out there.

(Obviously, you’ll pick up things a lot faster if you get an private instructor - but if money is an issue for you – then probably, it’s not in your best interest).
