Learning website programming?

Does anyone know what college degree would be geared towards learning how to code and make awesome websites and forum?
Would it be a BS in Computer Science?

I am going to major in business, but I would really like to learn how to make awesome websites and forums so that I can do that as a side note. I would probably just take them as electives or maybe as a minor.

Do colleges offer programs to get certified in different programs such as HTML, CSS, etc?

Any experiences would be great.

Thanks

CSS/HTML/other common coding is something you can learn on your own on the web, but if you prefer classroom style it's probably offered in most schools. I've got a friend in an undergrad business school who was required to take a web design class.

yea I'm thinking I would want to at least get the basics in a class I would think

Look into Information Technology programs or Information Systems Management / Administration.

At my school, CS majors can't get credit for Web Design courses. In CS, you study lots of math and systems / application programming. If you want web design and internet, information systems, etc., you should look elsewhere.

Yea I don't want CS I just want to be able to supplement my learning by learning web design

Your local community college should offer courses in XHTML/CSS.

Website programming have a little to do with computer science.
Yes, with computer science, a lot of stuff will be easier. But computer science mostly is about the theoritical background. In theory, a computer science major can actually knows nothing about computer and can't write a line of code(but obviously... most people who learn computer science does programming, how else are they going to apply their skills...)

It's not something require 4 years to study about, that's why there is no website programming major.

Website programming is really hard to define. If you are just doing HTML, CSS and those front end markup, you are actually a web degner instead of a web programmer. Web programmer usually writes stuff so it output HTML in the end, or write web services. Go check some open source programs that are considered related to web programming(Drupal, Wordpress and such)

If you really wants to do web programming 4 life. you can just get a degree for it in like 2 years on those technical schools.

Making awesome website and forums? there are already things out there does this and does it really well. Now the world need a better concept to improve upon the current design. The world need a new way to look at the internet. It's possible in 20 years, everything you see today on websites are obselete.

spelling errors because there is no spell check on this computer...

The Interactive Multimedia program at TCNJ might appeal to you.

yea I'll have to check out classes at college. I don't want to do it for life but my goal in college is to be able to come up with a text based online game and a site and forums to go with it.

GoIllini, there are community colleges that offer AAs and certificates in Graphic Design, Digital Art, Programming, and Interactive Media and Game Design.

I am currently pursuing a certificate in Graphic Design at a local 2-year school.

in that case... that shouldn't be your goal for college...
paying 40k to create a text based game with a forum isn't economically efficient...
It is better to set it as a goal of a summer... get a few books and learn from nothing...you can get the entire game done in the summer...

Let's see... You would need exactly two classes at my college to accomplish that: Intro to Programming and Web Development. Maybe add Data Structures for some fundamentals. Those classes are pretty standard and they are offered by most colleges. Just go where ever you want to go for your business major and then take a few CS electives there.
