A Masters in Beatles Studies

Beats a Masters in Women’s Studies…

True dat. Even the Masters in Family and Consumer Sciences is more practical than a MWS.

best major: applied math. it’s like a liberal arts major in versatility but for science.

Cripes, I better switch my major. I’m a math major but apparently it is one of the least useful.

…!!!

Seriously, silly topic. Always fun for my daily entertainment, keep up the fighting!

I agree art is talent not a major. I think that art majors should have double major in business so they learn what they can do with their art.

And a master is women’s studies can be put to more use then an art major.

It’s very rare for someone with a Communication/Music/Art degree to pull a well-paying job unless they are VERY talented and even then you might not get recognized.

For all of you in the artsy majors: Branch out into something technology or medicine related (eg. technical writing, graphic design, AV) that is somewhat related to what you like. If you’re not good at science or math, look up an edu tutorial like Khan Academy.

This economy is no joke. I’m now a CS major because I’m not taking any chances.

Funny, a few days ago my figure drawing teacher was telling my class anyone who says all artists are poor is an idiot and a bigot. This is coming from an artist who used to make $300k/year. Where did you get your “it’s very rare” statistic? In art, you run out of talent quickly. Beyond talent, you need skill, which few artists actually develop. There are a lack of skilled artists in this country, so anyone who develops good draftsmanship won’t have a problem finding a job.

Why would a studio ignore a great artist? So if I had a spectacular portfolio and submitted it to Disney, ILM, Warner Brothers, etc. they might throw it away because…? They’re hiring people by a lottery system now? Most artists are terrible and lazy, that’s why they can’t find jobs. It’s not because they just weren’t recognized. It’s because they suck. Artists are integral to society. Businesses need artists, so there’s no reason for them to ignore artists who can get a job done well.

I know everyone wants to be an artist. But most people want to because it’s “fun” and they think it’ll be easy. It’s hard, so most people don’t do it well because they’re lazy and don’t want to work. It has nothing to do with them just not being recognized.

No path can guarantee success.

Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime. I’m not saying it’s impossible for an artist to be wealthy, but if Van Gogh was only recognized posthumously, what chances do other artists have regardless of whether they are skilled or not?

I don’t want to be an artist.

And the fact that you need to be an amazong artist with god given talent just to get a job still makes art a least useful major

Oh, and no **** your art teacher said somethingbnice about art

Art is the only thing that makes life tolerable.
