leave of absence for undergrad

i'm a junior undergrad i was wondering if i could take a leave of absence. everywhere i look it seems to be the case that one can only take a leave of absence for medical reasons, maternity or paternity leave. i am not taking this leave for a medical reason. however i would like to take the next quarter off i don't think i would need anymore time then that. my grades are fairly good so far. so can i take a leave of absence?

My university allows it with no questions asked. I suspect that it is the same elsewhere.

Sure, I give you permission.

I don’t understand the question, and I don’t think anyone else will either. You’re gonna need to clarify. By a leave of absence you just mean you don’t want to attend next quarter or for the next few quarters? Then you just don’t enroll in classes. I don’t understand the question or problem here.

how tho if i don’t enroll in classes wont i get kicked out??

^No… Just don’t register for classes for the upcoming quarter if you don’t want to attend.

It is more than that since for Federal Financial Aid reasons, universities need to know the status of each student who has matriculated. If you simply don’t register, you could be put on inactive status and you might have to reapply to come back and take classes later. This could be a simple or more complicated process depending on the school’s policies. Of course, if you are just withdrawing forever from the university, then it probably does not matter.

In either case, it is best to inform the university of your intentions. If you are Withdrawing permanently, then tell them so. If you simply want to take a leave for a semester or two, then file for a Leave of Absence. The student Handbook will have information about the procedures or you might find them on the academic affairs web site.
