leaving community college

ohh this friday, probably not. I thot you meant fridays in general. You should go anyway get a feel for the campus and the city of Berkeley itself, and make sure you get a hot dog from Top Dog!! (I recommend the Hot Link).

Thanks man! I appreciate the food recommendation. It’ll definitely make the experience a bit more authentic. I hope that I’ll like it as much as you did when you visited. I haven’t ever been on campus despite living so close by!

hahaha,I agree!

@emilsinclair9 I know what u mean, i live 30 min or less away by BART but i never go to campus, but honestly being there changes everything, like i already wanted to go to berkeley REALLYYYYYYYYYYYYY badly, but now the crave is like 100x stronger. The campus was sorta dead when i went since it was the weekend, but the city was amazinggg.

Ahhh lol now I really want to visit!!! Berkeley was my dream school since I was a little kid. If you combine how badly I wanted to go for all those years, and compare that to how badly I’ve wanted to go since I’ve joined this site…no comparison lol. I can never get it out of my head!

Even if the campus is totally dead when I visit (and it very well may be because of the 3 or 4 day weekend) I bet I’ll still love it lol.

you probably will its a really beautiful campus, a lot of greener, the buildings have a really cool coliseum-style to them, and the city around it is thriving. The only thing i didnt like were the roads, they were terrible, but that’s w/e. I also looked into the class rooms at Dwinelle, and I really didnt like the desks that they used in that particular building, but I mean desks are w/e too, not too much to complain about for me.

I take a few classes on Berkeley campus and it feels like i’m in already. It will be a major let down if I don’t get that “Congrats” in the first line…but yeah the campus is nice! and it is a great idea to sit in on classes. I have done that often for a language class…Free lectures!

CalBearGuy: What is your major? Chances are you WONT have classes in Dwinelle. That happens to be where my Dept. is located so I have been in a few times talking to advisors…it is a homelly building!

hey sarah, is there a way to see the UCB schedule of classes offered? I ask because if I want to sit in on a lecture it’d be really helpful if I knew when and where the classes I’m most interested in are offered. I’m a Psych or Phil major, so I’d definitely want to check out those classes if possible, and also meet with some advisors and professors.

Also if I take BART from Millbrae, do I get off at Ashby? Or better, which stop is closest to Berkeley, and how do I get there from the BART stop? Thanks a ton! :)

^ Get off at downtown Berkeley the campus is a few blocks up from the station.

Thanks Johnny, I really appreciate it!

when is everyone visiting cal? hahah im gonna be there next weekend(not this because of the long weekend thing). i wanna sit in on some physics classes too. where can i get a hold of a class schedule of some sort.

back on topic:
things ill miss:

  • feeling smart because you get 100% on tests(not gonna happen when i go to a UC)
  • some of my best professors were from my cc
    things i wont:
  • being stuck in the library for hours because you have a huge gap in between your classes
  • insane cost of some books (but are soo much cheaper on amazon)
  • the weird old people in all my classes(not trying to be age-ist but you know what im talking about)
  • the weird old people in general
  • the professors who are extremely disorganized
  • being part of the select 2-3 people who contribute to lecture.

We seem to think alike SFwarrior…I asked the exact same question on page 2 lol. I’m thinking of visiting Cal this Friday and/or next Saturday. I’m still looking for the schedule of classes and their times as well.

Oh yeah, and I agree, SOO many weird old people!

hahaha my god definately agree about the weird people. there are soo many oddballs, especially in my major(engineering). haha thanks for the chance tho, a bit on the optimistic side with stanford on that one. hahahah :)

There is nothing wrong being in your sixties and trying to pick up young-hot chicks at CC. That is what I am going to do!

I will miss:
-The Express (student newspaper)
-my friends, especially the Filipino group that I hang out with and met last Spring semester
-the cheap tuition
-my fave. instructors
-The Mac computer lab where I used to work (I still go in there anyway when I want to practice designing because they are the only lab with Adobe CS4)
-all the people I met

Won’t miss:
-expensive cafeteria food that doesn’t even taste very good…
-people not caring about education…
-parking (although I have a feeling it’ll be worse at Sac State since it’s a total commuter school)
-the “question” or “answer” people who ALWAYS have to be saying something and suck up to the professor (this I noticed is usually the much older students)

^^ what cc do u go to? hehe im filipino too :)

I go to Sac City and CRC (I’ve been going to SCC for a while and this is my first semester taking classes at CRC) I see you live in carmichael. Where do you go, ARC?

I won’t miss getting beat up nearly every day by the gang bangers.

sorry son there’s mad gang bangers at the UC’s…well keep an eye out for you.
