Leaving my current UC for CCC. HELP!

Right now, I am at UCSD and after this week, I don't think I could stay here any longer.

I want to attend a CCC but it appears that all of them have started about a month ago! I am open to taking night classes or even online classes because I really want to get out of here! I am really sketchy on the leaving process because I probably can't sign up for any classes til the Winter Semester at any CCC. (But from my preliminary planning, I could make up for the lost Fall semester if I take classes during the Winter '09 & '10 and Summer '09 Semester)

Also, because I have yet to complete any courses at UCSD , will I be reviewed as a CCC student or a UC Student when I apply to transfer to UCLA/CAL two years from now?

I really don't know what to do, so if you have anything or something helpful to say, please HELP!

Honestly, if you are 100% certain that you want to leave UCSD then I would talk with a counselor and see what they say.

Check your catalog or your school's website for these two deadlines: "Deadline to drop and be able to request a refund" and "deadline to drop without a W". If you drop all of your classes before the "W" deadline, then I do not believe you will have a transcript from UCSD. It will be like you never attended the school. If you drop afterwards, you will have a transcript from them that says that you "W"ithdrew from all of your classes.

Now: You need to be absolutely, 100% certain you want to leave UCSD before you drop all of those classes. Why are you leaving? Adjusting to any new climate is hard and you need to give it time. I really think you need to think this through and talk it through with someone before you make this decision. If you don't want to loose this quarter worth of classes, you can also tough it out for the quarter and then start at a Community College for the Winter quarter/intersession. That is not an uncommon thing to do and you can still apply to transfer to CAL/UCLA. You'll have the credits under your belt and maybe you'll have a different opinion of the school by the end of the quarter.

If you do end up leaving, try to drop before the "W" deadline and also look at which CCC you want to attend. A CCC is VERY different from a UC, you may also be disappointed there and I'm not sure if you'd have the chance to go back to UCSD (you'd need to ask a counselor). Many CC's have a "late-start" session in Fall if they on a semester system, so you can look into that.

Thank you VERY MUCH!

It looks like I will have to stay here for the quarter which is "okay, I guess.

I do have one question though... How will having a transcript from UCSD affect my chances at UCB and UCLA when I transfer out of a CCC?

I will have about 16 Quarter Units from UCSD and 20 Quarter Units from AP Exams.

I'm assuming that it won't affect me greatly because it is only 10.67 Semester Units and I will complete 50 or so units at a CC....

I don't actually know how having a UCSD transcript will affect you. I don't think it will affect you negatively, though, especially since you will only have a limited number of quarter units from UCSD. I had a friend who also started at UCSD and then finished up at a community college. He is starting at Berkeley in the spring as a transfer student.

The people that will probably be able to best answer your question are counselors at a community college. They know a lot about transferring to various UCs. Good luck!
