Leaving UCSD

Hi I am currently a freshman at UCSD and am planning on transferring to a different school (most likely UCLA). Anyways, I was wondering whether it would be better for me to transfer after this quarter (fall) to a Community College or should I just finish my freshman year at UCSD and continue my GEs at a Community College in fall 2009?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

You'll have a better chance if you transfer from a CC.

I'm not sure if that one year of courses would count toward UC reciprocity, so you may end up wasting a year. Not liking ucsd?

Yea that's what I figured but it's so hard to find someone on this campus who can help. Honestly....UCSD just isnt for me...its a nice school...just not for me. I hate to sound like a whiner especially since so many people would die to go here, but that's just the way it is.

If I just take GE classes though shouldn't that be fine? The UCLA website says that you should have completed all GEs before coming in as a Junior.....so I assume that if I take the basic classes that one would take at a CC I would be fine? Idk...its all a little overwhelming :-/
I don't understand why my UC classes wouldn't transfer over though?

You need your GE and all the major pre-reqs done for UCLA. The UC classes are transferable but CC have 1st priority for transfer. If you having hard time finding help at UCSD, why do you think it will be any better at UCLA?

If you decide to leave for CC at the end of this quarter or beginning next school year Fall09
than your CC will try to apply some of your UCSD classes to fulfill IGETC. Then you can finish the rest of IGETC and Pre-reqs( if missing any) and try to get TAP.

It is another story to transfer from UCSD to UCLA because you would have to finish all of ERC's req such as MMW , Regional Specialization and some other boring stuff.

I think the OP, when referring to needing more help, was talking about the amount of advice/help needed to transfer from UCSD to UCLA.

I actually am going to do the CC route...I just don't know whether it would be better to not register for classes for UCSD winter quarter and enroll in CC for Spring 2009 or finish my freshman year at UCSD and start my second year at a CC in Fall 2009.

Financially, it makes more sense to go the CC route as soon as possible. You'll be paying far more for the same class otherwise.

what college are you at UCSD?

The best one. Muir.

Edit: oh you probably meant him...

Haha sweet. I'm in Muir too!
