Leaving W&M

I'm a freshman at William & Mary, and I am thinking about transferring next year (either as a second semester sophomore or a junior). I'm calculating my GPA for my first year, and it looks like I'll have a 3.5 (both semesters averaged). WM is a pretty tough academic school.

So, which top 30 school do you think my gpa would give me a good shot at?
P.S.: I'm a VA resident

Please no "there's so much more to transfer admissions than college GPA".I just want a rough estimate

I would work on bringing your gpa through either summer classes or next fall semester. Try to get it up to at least a 3.7. Then think about what you feel you’re missing at W&M (or what you’re getting that you don’t want). Don’t transfer to a top 30 for the heck of it - make sure it’s a school that fits your personality and fills your needs/wants. Think about cost and location. I think if you get your GPA up a little higher you will be a competitive applicant at any school you’d like.

What don’t you like about W&M? Is it too small? If so you could try UVA or UNC. If you want a city school maybe you could apply to Georgetown or Penn. You’ll get more answers once you say where you’re looking at going. You obviously have pretty strong stats to have been accepted at W&M.

Why don’t you like W&M? I’m applying there in the fall for transfer, and I’m just curious.

i also applied to w&m as a transfer student for fall 2011! it’s my top choice. just like previous posters asked, i’m wondering what you don’t like about it?

No w&m is actually great. I love it and encourage everyone who is accepted to go there. I just want to see where else I get accepted

I’m just curious, if I apply to UVA as a first semester sophomore (meaning I would go there my second semester) and I intend to apply to the mcintire school of commerce in my junior yr, do I apply as a regular arts & sciences student for transfer? Or do I have to apply directly to mcintire?

Coolio123,

If you’re applying as a transfer into your second year at UVA, then you would be applying to the CAS. You will then apply to McIntire towards the end of your Fall semester of your sophomore year.

Hope that helps and feel free to PM me if it doesn’t (I’m currently applying).
