Does anyone have any experience or info with this program. Is it worth it since its somewhat easy to get in? Would you recommend just going the regular path? Any info would be great, thanks
Why do you think that it is “somewhat easy” to get into? Because you don’t need to take the MCAT? You still will need to finish your undergraduate coursework with the kind of GPA that you’d need for admission anywhere else. Are you concerned that this early acceptance locks you out of applying to other medical schools?
All allopathic and osteopathic medical schools in the US offer essentially the same programs. There are slight differences in teaching methodology, course sequence, and institutional philosophy/focus. The graduates have to pass the same medical board exams, and compete for the same medical residency programs. If you want to know where LECOM graduates have pursued residencies in recent years, contact LECOM and ask. http://lecom.edu/
@happymomof1 sorry I was hesitant to say “easy” to get into. I meant in comparison to other programs similar. One school I’m looking at has a bs/do with lecom and a bs/md with another med school. The act requirements to get accepted are 6 points apart. I didn’t mean it wasn’t challenging I just meant it was an “easier” path because the gpa requirements were also lower than the bs/md program. It’s also a garuntee so it’s easier in the fact that you don’t have to take all the time to apply to multiple schools.
It may be relatively easier to be admitted, but it may be no easier to maintain the grades and complete the coursework required to get through the program. Also, since there are only so many spots guaranteed, that minimum might get you into the pool of students considered for the program, but you still might lose out to people who actually are better qualified than you.
@happymomof1 thank you! I never really thought about it I was just curious of what people thought about he program or had any inside information on it.
@pitt2021, A completely honest and sincere question – Why are you considering a BS/DO program as a high school senior?
@Roentgen the chance I would actually go is slim. I was just curious if anyone has done one before.
