Then you guys need to make it better

True true , all I’m thinking about is winter break LOLO have a holiday basketball tournament Coming up.

I wish everyone happy holidays! Hopefully in the end, getting selected for LEDA will be our ultimate Christmas gift

Ya!! Happy Holidays Everyone!! Don’t think about your application too much! 8-| Have fun!!

Hey, y’all! I’ve seen a lot of undocumented students shy away from applying to LEDA because you have to prove your citizenship in the second part of the application process. I’ve felt really conflicted about LEDA requiring students to prove their citizenship. LEDA looks for intellectual leaders, and I feel like it’s very important to speak up about policies that exclude a group of students, especially when they deserve this opportunity just as much as any of us. I grew up with having role models who didn’t have papers, and I wouldn’t be comfortable with myself knowing that an undocumented student was turned away from the program for the sole reason of being undocumented. I know a few undocumented students applied, and I was thinking we should email the board, create a petition, or something of the sort to hopefully have the policy changed. I hope y’all understand. Please reply with advice on what we should do or etc. It would leave a great precedent and let the program really be “Diverse.”

@PolicyDb8r I know where you’re coming from, but you have to consider that not only LEDA selects diversity of people, but also is a Summer program helping us to get into the most competitive colleges in the country. Most colleges only accept American citizens; therefore, making it required in the application.

@nierouz Many selective colleges do accept undocumented students, though. Even if a few colleges may only accept U.S. citizens, that is not an excuse for LEDA to also reject undocumented students.

I see what you guys are saying. Its tough but are we even sure if undocumented students are rejected??
Leda wants to help the poorest and most brilliant minds out there… Some one should atleast email Iris and discuss this with her and hear their side of it…

I understand where you’re coming from too but at the same time getting the policy changed in such a short notice would be highly unlikely. For one, you stated it earlier that not many undocumented people even apply bc of the eligibility requirements, and might not even get to second round(trying to be realistic not insulting) so LEDA can’t really tell which of the people applying aren’t documented. In other words, they can’t tell if changing the policy will help people or not. I’m sure LEDA makes that rule for a reason.

I totally agree with having the proof of citizenship be removed from the application process. For a program like LEDA that speaks for the voices of minorities in our country, it’s ironic that they discriminate against non-citizens. I would love to start a petition <3 Also happy holidays!

Does anyone know how heavily they focus on being first-generation? I feel like I meet the rest of the qualifications but both of my parents graduated from college. I’m really stressed about it and I can’t wait to get the news about Round 2! Good luck to everyone and happy new year!

I posted here about a month ago time for me to come back lol.

@happyslappy Since you are a LEDA alumni can you describe what we actually do during LEDA? I heard college counseling and ACT prep, but can you give me a sample daily or even weekly schedule
