Anyone heard anything???

I just got an email from Nicole Gonzalez requesting more information about my application. I send it within an hour of her emailing me! I’m just extremely glad they had even gotten to my application! Finally! Ill be checking my email all day every day this week though… I’m in Florida btw

Finally doing Florida?! So excited but nervous! I’ve been checking my email everyday since last month.

@usccollegequeen, is this still Step 2 information? Just wondering, since I haven’t been notified about Step 3 yet and I was wondering if it was over. :x Georgia, here.

Hey LEDA prospects,

Soon as I learned that there was a CC thread for LEDA this year, I finally made an account just to share my thoughts. Hopefully you’ll find them helpful. First, a little bit about me: I’m LEDA 7th Cohort.

1) Congrats for applying to LEDA. it is a great summer program, and it is a life changing experience. You will be among a brotherhood of like-minded people, striving toward the common goal of academic success. As high-achieving paupers, LEDA will help you become princes.

2) Although it’s good that you’re concerned so much about the admissions process, I would not obsess over it so much. This CC thread is prime example. It is a great place for people who are going through the same thing to be able to communicate and band together, but please, keep in mind that you guys are competing against each other. You are the opportunity cost that others have to pay. Please refrain from posting your admission results or stats, as it changes nothing but causes anxiety for your peers, and can even damage their confidence in the future. Posting stats and obsessing about it on CC is a major cause of the problem that LEDA aims to solve: it discourages low-income, relatively “weaker” stat people to not even apply. In truth, admission decision are not based on stats alone. There is no formula. That’s why you have human admission officers, not computers that process and calculate your GPA, SAT scores, your essay grammars, etc. In short: to be helpful, all you need to do is say that you’ve received your decision, so that people can get a better handle on LEDA’s rolling process.

3) It’s fun to come up with theories, trying to put pieces of the puzzle together and beat the system, but honestly, a rolling admission process is just that: admission decisions are sent as soon as they are made. While there is some indication that they have a strategy (such as targeting small states first, region by region, etc), it is important to remember that this is just correlation. It is very hard to prove causation exists in these data, especially keeping in mind that it is a rolling process. So if it seem like admission “passed” your region, and so you think you must’ve been rejected: that might not be the case.

4) Do not be disheartened if you’re rejected. LEDA is a very competitive program. If you’re selected for an interview (they interview 70, admit about 60-61 people), then be still prepared for the possibility of being waitlisted or rejected. However, keep in mind what I said in #2, LEDA’s rejection in part means that the program is probably not compatible for you, not purely that you’re a worse candidate than the 60 people that got in.

That’s all I’m gonna write for now, folks. I have exams coming up, so I probably won’t be on CC again until the summer (3 weeks from now). At that time, hopefully everyone will get their decisions, and I’ll check back in to talk to admits about the program, tips on packing, preparation for the summer, etc.

For now, have a great summer and senior year. Hopefully you’ll get everything you want, including that LEDA admittance letter! If you make it to Yale someday, we’ll see each other for Brunch at Bull Dog Days!

Dasvidaniya, Tovarisch! May the odds be ever in your favor (Yes, Im a Hunger Games nerd)

@Katian
I hadn’t really thought of it like that, but I know see what you’re talking about. Thank you, however, so much for the info! I really can’t wait to get more insight from a past scholar :slight_smile:
(Btw, I kinda love The Hunger Games too)

Yes this is still Part II that I’m talking about

@Kantian
Thank you for introducing a new perspective on the uses of a CC thread.
