Leftover grants

Hi guys,

I’m receiving a pell grant of around $2900
and financial aid of around $2600. My tuition is exactly $2600, so it leaves me with $2900. Can I use that money to buy myself a laptop for classes that I’ll be attending? Also I’m getting the textbooks for free too, so no need to spend it on those books. Thanks in advance!

Your tuition is billed by the semester and your grant is disbursed by the semester. Is your tuition $2900 per semester or $2900 for the year?

$2600 a semester, I’m receiving around $5500 per semester. So the total is $11,000 of financial aid.

What does your aid consist of?
Can you provide a breakdown of your package?
Is this $11,000 all aid that does not have to be repaid or are there also loans?

If you have loans, I would minimally eliminate the unsub loans from your financial aid package.

what is the cost of your tuition and fees?

Do you need to purchase health insurance?

@sybbie719 has good questions.

The college is going to use your financial aid to first pay all of its billable costs …tuition, fees, room, board, and health insurance if you need it. You won’t see any of that Pell Grant…or any other surplus in aid…until a few weeks into, the term. You need to check your college policy on when refunds of surplus monies re refunded.

The financial aid that I’ll be receiving is all grant which I don’t have to pay back. Tuition is $2600
And I don’t need to buy any health insurance.

How much are your fees 5everyone has fees)
Are you registered full time
Is you other grant a state grant? If yes, it cannot be more than tuition

Not sure about the fees tbh
And yes I’m registered full time
And just checked to see if it’s state grant, it’s a federal grant. And the other grant is from TAP

I am sorry to say it is like pulling teeth to get a response in order to assist you.

From what i gather, you are getting $5165 in TAP and monies in Pell

How much are you getting in TAP
How much are you getting in PELL

what school are you attending?

will you be living on campus or commuting?

Start with reading your award package.

I will be attending ___________, where I will be ( pick one-living on campus/living at home) .

My financial aid package is as follows:

Tap
Pell
Tuition Credit (SUNY tuition credit0
Loans

How much can I expect as a refund from Pell

Yes, you can use the extra money to buy a laptop and whatever remains is yours to do whatever. You’ll receive a refund check in the mail in some weeks.

Op hasn’t given enough information to know whether or not s/he is even getting a refund.

If op is attending a SUNY and dorming, there will be no refund.

If op is attending a 4-year SUNY/CUNY there will be less money because TAP does not cover the entire cost of tuition. Op also has to consider the cost of fees, which is also going to cut into the amount of his/her refund.

BY now op should have bill giving him a better picture of how much is being bill and what Op is being credited.
