Leftover Pell from Spring 2017

Hi everyone,

I reentered school this semester (Spring 2017), applied for the Federal Pell Grant back in the fall, and received an award amount. I thought I had all of it used up as it showed up on what was applied to this Spring 2017 semester. However, I looked at my general financial aid and realized that only half was applied to the semester. It says I accepted twice the amount I received. Since this semester is the last of the school year, can I collect the remainder of the grant and use it for back pay on other fees this semester, collect it for next school term, etc? Or since I started in the spring, does the other half just get lost despite it being apart of the accepted award?

The most you can receive in any semester is 1/2 your annual award amount. If you didn’t use any Pell in fall & you used 1/2 in spring, you are eligible to receive up to the remaining 1/2 in summer if you attend school in the summer (as long as your school considers summer part of the 2016-2017 award year). You must attend school to receive Pell, and you can only receive up to half each semester … so to answer your specific question: no.
