<p>What qualifies as a legacy at UIUC?</p>

<p>My grandma went there and was recently inducted into the Illini Media Hall of Fame for her journalism. She wrote for the Daily Illini. Her son, my uncle, also attended UIUC and wrote on the Daily Illini.</p>

<p>However, my grandma's daughter, my mom, did not go to U of I, and neither did my dad or any direct relatives on his side.</p>

<p>So I have two relatives that went to U of I, one of which was pretty famous around Chicago in her time.</p>

<p>Is this a legacy? Will this give me the legacy "boost" when I apply to UIUC next year?</p>

<p>This year, legacy is a consideration for admission. It is part of the application although I believe it must be your parent not your grandparent or uncle. They also mentioned it at the admission presentation. I believe it is new.</p>
