Legacy Admissions

Hey guys,

We are discussing this on the Virginia forum, but I was curious what people at Michigan think of legacy admissions?

Meh... I personally don't think legacy has much to do with admissions here. I'm sure it may help but very minimally. I know people whose parents went here and still got deferred. Basically, if you don't have the grades, I don't think they care very much who your parents are (unless your dad was Bill Gates or something like that).

From what I can tell, the topic isn't a big issue on campus. (Then again, I'm not a legacy so I wouldn't really take notice to any of that.)

im legacy and got deferred

Michigan has more living alumni than just about anywhere else--therefore the pool of "legacies" is pretty sizable! The boost it gives in admissions can't be known (they don't give points like they used to) but it's probably not a big help.

Legacy only counted for 4 points in the old system ... and that goes for single or double legacy. Yeah it counts but not that much.

LOL, i'm legacy and got deferred too.

I don't think it matters. GPA is the only real thing important to Michigan.

another deffered legacy...

Son with two-parent legacy was deferred, delayed, or whatever they're calling it these days. Snagging those kids that get the ivy axe is waaaayyyy more prestigious than admitting a passionate legacy.
