Legacy Admissions

Hi Guys, I got waitlisted for UChicago and right now Im worried about Columbia. How much will being a legacy kid help my chances by for RD (my dad and uncle attended Columbia)? My stats are a bit low, and you can see them here:

Thanks!

I’m also an international applicant not applying for financial aid, in case anyone was wondering.

someone answer pls

Two factors working in different directions: legacy (a plus) and international (a minus). Legacy tends to work better when applying ED. Which begs the question: Why didn’t you apply ED to Columbia? Certainly, money was not a factor (no financial aid).

Actually, international not applying for aid may help you because Columbia will get more money. Its also going to depend on what country your from.

^ It appears that HappyBuddha is applying from the Philippines.

I’m in a similar boat as you, by the way. International applicant to Columbia who’s also worried after Chicago decisions (I got rejected). But I requested financial aid at both schools :/

Ok thanks guys - I didnt apply ED because I wanted to strengthen my GPA and my SAT back then was like 1940. 7 days lol

to be honest, i think some of your stats are going to be hard to overcome, just because there are so many qualified candidates out there. on the other hand, you sound like you really have a particular focus in your ECs and are not just doing random things to make yourself look better. that makes you interesting, and ups your chances. best of luck!
