I'm a legacy at Stanford, but have really bad SAT I scores for the school. GPA, ECs, and SAT II are pretty good, so should I maximize my chances and apply EA at Stanford?

Essentially, does my legacy status help lessen the impact of my SAT Score?

Legacies at most top schools have test scores and qualifications very close to that of the general pool. Stanford is not big on legacies. They take about 25% of legacy applicants compared to nearly 50% od some of the ivies.

Unless your parents are powerful alum who have given a lot of time or money to the school, it's doubtful that being a legacy will help much if your scores are low for the applicant pool. Are you by chance a URM (ebony?). That would really help.

according to A is For Admission, URMs have the biggest cut. unless your dad is some rich donor, then it's much tougher to use that as your hook.

I don't know about Stanford, but I interview for Harvard and have watched the success or lack thereof of legacy candidates for many years. It seems to be less of a factor year over year.

This year two legacies I interviewed with stats far above average were waitlisted, the polite rejection. I think legacies need to be just as strong as the pool as a whole and get the nod over an equally good candidate only.
