Anyone know details on the offering for legacy applicants to meet with an ad com? Do they give advice about specifics of the application or just feedback about whether or not it's a good idea to apply?

Surely someone has done this…?

From what I have heard it is both. They look at your stats and give feedback. They also give advice on application. I know this is only hearsay. i am sure someone will eventually comment with specifics.

See ephnotes.org April 2012 letter - For some reason I can’t copy and paste it here but the info for setting up one of these interviews is in the April note. The interview is very helpful- a candid evaluation of chances at Williams.

My daughter, a legacy through her mother, did this. They do mention your chances at Williams, but also focus on recommending schools that match your stats and interests. It was very helpful, and worth the trip.

Williams does not do interviews as part of the admissions process, but I suspect if an eminently qualified student shows up, it doesn’t go unnoticed.

My DD also just did this in August. As others have said, it was very helpful and well worth doing. We sent in DDs resume, scores, school profile, etc. ahead of time and the Dean of Admissions spent about 45 min with DD and then invited me in for 15 min. I thought his perspective of DDs chances / fit at not only Williams but other schools on her list was very interesting/valuable. He also was extremely forthcoming about how ED works and in her case advised not doing it. He said the higher percentage of admits in ED is somewhat misleading as 60-80 of the 200 admitted are recruited athletes (not that these kids aren’t also otherwise qualified).
